Notification Diagnostics
Not receiving notifications when you expect them? Let's figure out why and get you back on track.
How Notifications Work
For notifications to work properly, several things need to be in place:
Basic Requirements
-
Notification Permission: You must allow notifications in your device settings
- Check the app's Settings screen for a notification permission button
- Verify in your device's OS settings that notifications are enabled for Stanwagon
-
Idol Updates Enabled: The "Idol Updates" switch in the app's Settings screen (under Notifications) must be ON
-
Stan Artists: You need to stan at least one artist to receive their updates
When You'll Receive Notifications
Notifications are sent only when:
- There are new updates from artists you've stanned
- You haven't already seen those updates in the app
- It's not during your nighttime hours (see Mindful Notifications)
Important: If you've already opened the app and viewed an update, you won't receive a notification about it later.
Frequency Settings
If you have the "Reduced" option selected for frequency, you'll receive significantly fewer notifications. This means you may not receive notifications on days when you've opened the app frequently.
Technical Requirements
Your device needs:
- Stable internet connection
- Background data permission for the app
- Device not in "low power", "data saving" or "do-not disturb" modes
- If you have any VPNs active, you may need to turn them off. Certain network configurations may also interfere with notification delivery.
Some Android devices may require the app to be exempted from battery optimizations for notifications to function reliably. For device-specific solutions, visit dontkillmyapp.com. (Third Party)
Note: Some instructions on third-party sites may require technical expertise. Stanwagon take no responsibility for damage or consequences from following external instructions. Follow them at your own risk.
Timing Considerations
- Notifications are sent periodically, and are never instant.
- Your OS may differ notification delivery to conserve power, and consideration of your settings like Do Not Disturb, Low Power, Low Data or similar modes.
- If you've changed your system time or traveled across timezones, notifications may pause for a few hours
Checking Notification Logs
Want to see what's happening behind the scenes?
- Open the app's Settings screen
- Under Notifications, tap "See Diagnostics"
- View the logs from the last notification run
Note: Logs may take up to a day to populate after installing or updating the app. Give it some time with a stable internet connection and check back later.
Understanding Your Logs
- No errors shown: There were likely no new updates from your stanned artists during that period
- Errors present: Your device may have connectivity issues, or was in low power/data saving mode
- Logs are several days old: The app may need to reset the notification system
Still Not Getting Notifications?
Typically you should not have to do this, as it is automatically handled by the app when it detects the notifications are not being delivered.
But if everything looks right but you're still not receiving notifications, you can try this manual reset:
Notification System Reset
- Open the app and ensure you have a stable internet connection
- Refresh the feed by pulling down from the top
- Confirm the feed loads without errors
- Go to Settings → Notifications
- Turn OFF the "Idol Updates" switch
- Wait 10 seconds
- Turn ON the "Idol Updates" switch
- Wait 10 more seconds
This resets the notification system. You should see new notification logs populate within the next few hours (assuming you have a stable internet connection).
Stay connected to your idols! ✨
